Overview

Seven Animal Messengers of Akabane is a companion project to The Seven Lucky Gods, consisting of small bronze animal sculptures placed throughout the neighborhood.

Story of the Commission

The project was designed to complement the Lucky Gods installation while extending the artwork into the surrounding community.

Concept

Each animal represents a messenger associated with one of the Lucky Gods. Installed at child’s height within “story windows,” the sculptures invite discovery and interaction.

Design Process

Freeman created small clay studies for each animal before casting them in bronze. Their scale and placement were carefully considered so children could easily encounter and interact with them.

Installation and Public Life Today

The animals are scattered throughout the neighborhood, encouraging exploration and bringing moments of delight to passersby.
